WeCode Hosts MP Pia Kauma: A Shared Vision for Digital Inclusion and Equal Opportunities

WeCode ry had the honour of welcoming Member of Parliament Pia Kauma to our community this week. The meeting provided a meaningful opportunity to introduce our mission, present our ongoing activities, and exchange views on how Finland can better support immigrant professionals, especially those aiming to enter or return to the IT sector.
Strengthening Digital Skills for All
One of the key topics of our discussion was our digital literacy training, an initiative designed to empower newcomers with essential computer and digital skills. These trainings have already helped many individuals gain confidence, improve their employability, and navigate everyday digital environments more effectively.
We highlighted the importance of accessible learning opportunities for people of all backgrounds, especially for those who did not previously have the chance to develop digital skills.
Empowering Women and Supporting Equality
A central focus of our conversation was the role of women in technology and the workplace. At WeCode ry, we are committed to supporting women as they build new skills and create new career paths.
This includes:
• Women aiming to enter the IT industry
• Women looking to re-skill or upskill
• Stay-at-home mothers who want to return to the workforce with stronger digital capabilities
We emphasized that digital skills are not only essential for employment, but also for independence, confidence, and participation in today’s society.
Building Bridges Between Communities and Policymakers
MP Kauma expressed genuine interest in our work and the challenges faced by immigrant professionals in Finland. Her visit provided an encouraging space for open discussion about how policy, community organizations, and the tech sector can work together to create more inclusive opportunities.
We appreciated her insights on equality, integration, and the importance of ensuring that everyone has access to skills that support their growth.
Moving Forward Together
WeCode ry will continue its work to break barriers, strengthen digital skills, and support diversity within Finland’s technology sector. MP Kauma’s visit was a valuable reminder that collaboration between communities and decision-makers can lead to meaningful progress.
We thank MP Kauma and her team for their time and interest, and we look forward to continued dialogue and cooperation.
