Membership terms

This page summarises how membership of WeCode ry works. It is based on the Finnish Associations Act (yhdistyslaki 503/1989) and on what this site already states.

Who can join

Anyone who accepts the association's purpose can apply for membership. WeCode ry aims to provide educational resources, hands-on training and expert guidance for IT professionals, career changers and newcomers to the tech industry.

Applying and approval

You apply with the form on the membership page. We first email you a link to confirm your address; an application that is not confirmed within 7 days is deleted. The board then decides on admission (Associations Act, section 12: the board decides on admitting members unless the rules provide otherwise). You will be told the decision by email.

Membership fee

The annual membership fee is currently 30 €. The amount is set as provided in the association's rules. The board sends payment details to new members separately.

Members' rights

Members can take part in the association's meetings and vote there. Under the Associations Act (section 25), unless the rules provide otherwise, every member aged 15 or over has the right to vote and each has one vote. Members can also take part in the association's events.

Resigning

A member may resign at any time by notifying the board or its chair in writing, or by announcing the resignation at an association meeting to be recorded in the minutes (Associations Act, section 13). The board may decide that notice can also be given in another verifiable way, such as by email. The rules may provide that a resignation takes effect only after a set period of at most one year.

Expulsion

The association may expel a member on grounds stated in its rules, and always if the member has failed to meet the obligations they accepted on joining (for example by not paying the membership fee), has significantly harmed the association by their conduct inside or outside it, or no longer meets the conditions of membership set out in the law or the rules (Associations Act, section 14). The decision is made by an association meeting unless the rules give it to the board. Before the decision the member is given an opportunity to explain, except when the reason is an unpaid membership fee (section 15).

Member register

The association keeps a register of its members with each member's full name and place of residence (kotipaikka) (Associations Act, section 11). The association is the controller of this personal data and the board carries out the controller's duties. How we handle personal data is described in the privacy policy.

This page summarises membership. The rules of WeCode ry (Business ID 3500714-9) registered with the Finnish Patent and Registration Office and the Associations Act take precedence.
