WeCode ry has successfully launched “AI in Action,” a transformative initiative designed to equip young people aged 18-30 with practical software and artificial intelligence skills. Supported by the European Solidarity Corps, this six-month project focuses on bridging the gap between theoretical study and real-world application.
Learning by Doing: Seminars & Open Source
Spearheaded by a dedicated youth team, the project combines interactive learning with community service. Alongside learning the latest AI developments, participants are collaborating on a socially impactful, open-source AI software prototype.
Seminar Highlights
To foster an ethical and collaborative tech culture, the project featured four major seminars designed to upskill participants:
• Introduction to Agentic AI: Held online via Zoom on April 29, 2026, featuring Assistant Professor Tolga Ensari. The session explored how autonomous agents perceive, reason, and act in complex environments.
• AI for Simulation: Hosted on May 26, 2026, at THE HUB B122 in Espoo. This event explored intelligent models and featured an interactive workshop applying AI to simulation challenges.
• Battle of the Models: Taking place on June 29 at the Lippulaivan kirjasto, speaker Sanket Joshi led a comparative discussion. Participants analyzed the capabilities and privacy factors of Local versus Cloud AI.
• Vibe Coding: On August 24, Mari Luukkainen delivered a hands-on workshop at the Lippulaiva library. Attendees brought their own laptops to learn how to build and ship products creatively using modern AI tools.
Building a Collaborative Future
The overarching goal of “AI in Action” is to deliver a working open-source prototype designed to address concrete local community needs, such as digital literacy and civic engagement. By encouraging participants to remain active maintainers, the initiative ensures that the technical and social impact will continue to thrive long after the official program ends.
